In the world of beauty and anti-aging there are four steps that most all treatments fall under; resurface, relax, refill and re-suspend.
This is something I educate my patients about everyday and I began thinking that creating a beautiful life is a lot like creating beautiful skin.
Did you know that as we age the skin loses it's ability to turn over or renew itself like it did when we were young? Skin cells build up creating fine lines, wrinkles, large pores and uneven skin tone. Over time, the skin becomes dull and lifeless.
It's important to slough off those old skin cells and reveal the younger, healthier ones down below. Plus the very act of resurfacing the skin forces the skin to look younger and act healthier.
We accomplish this resurfacing with pharmaceutical grade skincare, chemical peels, lasers, Micro-needling and facials. Most of these treatments require no downtime, are painless and provide long -lasting results, but for older, more damaged skin the treatment may need to be a little more aggressive to the desired results.
Isn't that a little like life too? Over time, hurts, disappointments, unmet expectations and negative thinking can erode away at our happiness and our glow. Just like resurfacing our skin, we need to peel back the layers of dull and lifeless thoughts and habits that are keeping us from our most beautiful life.
It starts with an evaluation, right? Sunday is my relax and reflect day. I review the past week looking for "wrinkles" in my life that didn't line up with my core values.
Nothing steals your "glow' like negative thoughts toward yourself and others. Even though these thoughts may be justified, we have to treat it with "light" and ablate all the darkness. We use laser light on our skin, but in life it may be a self-help book, a worship service, coffee with a trusted friend or quietly meditating.
We won't get it right every time, but as we continually resurface our lives we will create a radiant glow that makes a positive impact, not only our lives, but those around us!
